Enrollment Options

The following is a list of the different options available within the horse project. Following the brief description is the recommended liturature.

Options requiring a horse:

231 Horses 1
In this beginning project, you don't have to own a horse or pony. You just need a desire to learn about horses, including horse behaviors, terms, breeds, identification, selection, grooming and much more.
BU8053 Giddu Up and Go

In this intermediate project, you will learn about horsemanship, judging, oral reasons, unsoundness, tack, training, showing, riding skills, feeding and much more.
BU8054 Head, Heart and Hooves

In this advanced project, experienced horsemen will explore horse breeding, genetics and heredity, controlling parasites, fencing and pasturing, housing and much more.
BU8055 Stable Relationships

In this project, you will learn riding skills and everything you need to know before you get on a horse for the first time. Activities include training a horse, round pen workout, how to ride in a group, basic riding skills and much more.
BU8056 Riding the Range

In this project, you will discover the ins and outs of showing your horse. Activities include setting goals, comparing costs of show clothing, pre-show fitting techniques, rating your showmanship skills and much more.

This project gives 4-H members the chance to learn and perfect the hobby of collecting and showing model horses. The project is ideal for members who may not be able to own and show live horses.

Learn how to make your own riding apparel and horse equipment, develop sewing and other creative skills, understand textile selection and care.
